Jet-Setting in Style: My Travel Tech Backpack Essentials

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

Traveling can be an incredible experience, full of new sights, sounds, and adventures. Whether you're backpacking through Europe, hiking in the Himalayas, or exploring the beaches of Southeast Asia, capturing those memories. However, in order to document your travel experiences, having the right gear is essential.

As someone who has traveled to over 35 countries, I have learned that having the right gear can make all the difference in the quality of your travel photos and videos. Here is what I bring in my tech bag on all my trips around the world.

  • Camera: Choosing the right camera is a crucial part of any travel photography kit. There are several options available, from smartphones to point-and-shoots to professional DSLRs. Personally, I prefer a mirrorless camera for its compact size and high-quality images.

    1. Canon M50 Mirrorless Camera

    2. GoPro Hero 9

    3. Insta360 X3

    4. DJI Pocket 2

  • Lenses: The right lenses can help you capture different types of shots, from wide-angle landscapes to close-up portraits. I always carry a wide-angle lens for landscape shots, a standard zoom lens for everyday use, and a telephoto lens for wildlife and portrait shots.

    1. Sigma 16mm

    2. Sigma 30mm,

    3. Canon 22mm

    4. Canon 15-45mm

    5. Canon 50mm

    6. Canon 75-300mm

  • Batteries and Memory Cards: Running out of battery or storage space can be a nightmare when you're traveling. That's why I always carry several extra batteries and memory cards with me. It's important to make sure your batteries are fully charged and to back up your photos and videos regularly. A memory card ScanDisk 64 GB to 356 GB will do.

  • Tripod: A lightweight and compact tripod can help you capture stable shots in low light or in crowded areas. It's an essential tool for landscape and night photography.

  • Portable Hard Drive: Backing up your files is crucial when you're traveling. I always carry a portable hard drive with me to ensure that my photos and videos are safe and secure.

  • Portable Charger Bank: A power bank can charge your phone at least 6-8 times, suitable for business, travel, and outings, You don't have to worry about your devices having a low battery.

  • Universal Power Adapter: Traveling to different countries means dealing with different types of power outlets. A universal power adapter can help you charge your devices anywhere in the world.

  • Protective Backpack: Traveling can be rough on your gear, so it's important to protect it from harsh weather conditions, dust, and water. I always carry a rain cover for my backpack and camera, as well as a dry bag to keep my gear safe and dry during water-based activities.

  • Headphones: High-quality headphones can make editing videos on the go much easier. They can also be a great way to tune out distractions during long flights or bus rides.

In conclusion, having the right gear is essential for documenting your travel experiences. A sturdy backpack, a reliable camera, lenses, extra batteries, memory cards, a tripod, a portable hard drive, a universal power adapter, headphones, and protective gear are all crucial components of any travel photography kit. With the right equipment, you can capture stunning photos and videos of your travels, which will help you relive those experiences for years to come.
