The island of Hispaniola, divided island with alot of history, culture, diversity and of course beauty. I have traveled to both countries (Haiti and Dominican Republic) which are both vastly different from each other yet share a common land.
Dominican Republic, as child I have been exposed to the Dominican culture and way of life through my best friends and they have a curiosity for me to see this place they called him. In 2015, I had the chance to visit Dominican Republic while I was in Haiti. Basically, I took a 8 hours bus ride from Port Au Prince to Santo Domingo. Had an amazing time in DR which resulted me in coming back over 10 times visiting over 10 cities (Santo Domingo, Santiago, Punta Cana, Higuey, Boca Chica, Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete, Cabera, Gasper Hernandez, Juan Dolio, Samana, San Juan, Nagua, La Vega, and more).
Recently I took a 30 days trip to DR to see some friends and relax along the north coast (Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarate) during the pandemic. No PCR test was not required but I had to follow the country's mandates and curfew hours. I rented a SUV and drove along the coast and visited the following cities (Sosau, Puerto Plata, Cabarate, Gasper Hernandez, San Juan, Nagua and Samana). During my coastal tour, I had the chance to see the uniqueness of each city and even the people are different especially when you’re far out in the country’s campo area. Good genuine people.
As many times, I come to DR, I am always learning and seeing something new. So much to do and see as well as eat. There is more to Dominican Republic beyond the resorts and tourist traps. There is a rich history, culture and vibrant way of life. No matter what, you will enjoy yourself with nice cold Presidente Light.
