Watch the Podcast: Internet neither Forgives nor Forgets: Protect your Digital Footprints
As we move forward in the digital era, there is something you need to be aware of, your digital footprint. What is Digital Footprint: A digital footprint is the trail of data, both intentional and unintentional, that you leave behind while surfing the internet.
What is your digital footprint?
Your digital footprint includes photos, social media posts, and words you've shared on the internet. It also includes passwords, demographic data, online purchases, etc. Part of your digital footprint is public (available for most or everyone to see) but a large part is private. I want to focus on the (Public) digital footprint you purposely create which can be used against you at a later time ie future employment, opportunities, etc.
3 Steps you can protect your digital footprint?
Google yourself: Take inventory of what’s out there. Search for your name every few months, so you’re cognizant of the information others have access to.
Think before you post: Never put a temporary emotion on the permanent internet. Anger is temporary; online lasts forever. Pause before you post: Think twice, post once,
Avoid the mugshot: Any photo you post could be dug up someday. Limit your sharing of questionable images on social platforms as well as participating in live video streams on YouTube.
So before you act recklessly on the internet via social media platforms, think before you post; think before you comment, and think before you participate in a live stream!
